2007-2008 New Year's Eve Events on Pender Island, BC

Have you made plans for New Year's Eve yet?  

NO?! 

Then come to Pender Island and help us bring in 2008!  We have a full evening's worth of events, and our very own January 1st Polar Bear swim to boot!

THE MAGIC LAKE LANTERN FESTIVAL

A Pender Islands' New Year's Eve tradition!  Giant Puppets, Bamboo Lanterns, Stilt Walkers, an enchanting shadow play and Kayak Ballet on the lake are only some of what entertains and delights residents and visitors alike just after dark falls on December 31.  A truly unique family event whose fame is just starting to spread beyond its Gulf Island home.

Join us at Magic Lake Park on December 31st at 5:00pm and watch the magic unfold before your eyes!

If you are interested in bringing your own lantern and joining in the Procession, you should know that Festival organizers are also holding 3 hour Lantern Making Workshops at the Community Hall on Dec. 27-30.  See the Community Hall Events page for more details.  A suggested donation of $10/lantern is requested to cover the cost of materials.

SWING INTO '08 AT THE PENDER ISLANDS COMMUNITY HALL

Celebrate New Years at the Hall with local musicians and friends.  8:30pm - 1:00am.  Tickets are $25/person (teens $10, under 12 free), and are available in advance at Talisman Books and Southridges Store.  Cash Bar and Concession will be available.

Volunteers are needed for set-up, decorating, tickets, concession and clean-up.  (Volunteers get in for free.)  Call Margaret at 629-3669 if you can help.

POLAR BEAR SWIM 2008

The Pender Islands Club presents their annual Polar Bear Swim at the Port Browning Marina on Monday, January 1st.  Splashdown is sometime between 1 and 1:30pm.  Come join the fun!

• Certificates of Recognition presented to participants
• Free Hotdogs, smokies and hot chocolate for all participants
• Pender Pipe Band will be there to provide inspirational music
